QY STRING

QY STRING was founded by Qing Y. Huang, a graduate of the renowned Newark School of Violin Making in the United Kingdom. In 1991, he began working at Ealing Strings in London, where he apprenticed under Michael J. Taylor, one of the UK’s most respected bow makers.

Huang relocated to Canada in 1995 and, in the following year, he became workshop manager at the Toronto branch of Shar Music—a leading U.S.-based supplier of string instruments and accessories across North America.

In October 2024, Qing Y. Huang traveled to Alicante, Spain, to reconnect with Michael Taylor—a master bow maker he hadn’t seen in over 30 years. It was Taylor who first introduced Huang to the art of bow making and repair, generously sharing his knowledge during lunch breaks at Ealing Strings, a well-known music shop in the UK. With over 30 years of experience in violin making and restoration, Huang has developed exceptional craftsmanship and deep

expertise as a luthier. His dedication to the art has earned him recognition through interviews with OMNI News TV, Huaxia Finance (U.S.), and Sing Tao Daily (Canada).

He was interviewed by Sing Tao and featured in the Sing Tao newspaper on September 25, 1995.

Below is a Mandarin interview with Huang, conducted by OMNI News TV.
